This year marks the 60th anniversary of Australia's switch to decimal currency, which took place on 14 February 1966. Before that landmark date, Australians used pounds, shillings and pence — a system inherited from Britain and introduced here in 1910. The changeover was a defining moment in Australian economic history, and the Royal Australian Mint has marked the occasion in the most extraordinary way possible.

What Makes This Set Special

The 2026 Gold Proof Six-Coin Year Set includes all six standard Australian denominations — 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2 — all struck in 99.99% pure gold. Combined, the six coins contain 3.652 troy ounces (113.56g) of fine gold. The 10c and 50c reverses feature custom commemorative designs by the Mint's own Aaron Baggio, celebrating both the pre-decimal era and the coins we use today. The remaining four coins carry the standard circulating reverse designs, alongside the Daniel Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse.

The set is presented in a stunning timber display case, complete with a hand-engraved plaque and a numbered certificate of authenticity. It is, without question, the Royal Australian Mint's most prestigious annual release.
