"We know our products. We believe in our products. We pay for our products."
Three short lines. They sum up everything independent retail stands for. And they're the reason Olivia & Grace looks, feels and works the way it does.
A Story From the Department Store Floor
Before we ever stocked Blunt umbrellas, I bought one for my wife. I went to David Jones to get it.
I nearly walked out empty handed.
The website said they were in stock. Three different staff members couldn't help me or tell me where they were. When I eventually found them myself, they were shoved at the end of a shelf. No care. No presentation. No story.
Blunt makes a brilliant umbrella, designed in New Zealand to take on serious weather. It deserved better than that. So did I, as a customer ready to spend.
A Big Name Isn't the Same as a Good Home
For years, brands saw a spot on the shelves at DJs as the highlight of their journey. We see it differently.
We're not the only ones who've noticed. realcommercial.com.au recently ran a piece titled How David Jones destroyed its greatest asset and signed its own death warrant. The headline says it all.
A famous shopfront doesn't do a good brand justice. People do. Great products need a team who understands them, displays them with pride and can tell you exactly why they're worth it. That's what indie retail does best.
How We Do It Differently
We know our products. Our team handles them every single day. Ask us about a Jellycat, a candle or a Blunt umbrella and we'll tell you how it feels, how it lasts and who it suits.
We believe in our products. We only sell products and brands we believe in. Gifts we personally love to give and love to receive. If we wouldn't gift it ourselves, it doesn't make our shelves. I travel to trade fairs from New York to Paris to find them.
We pay for our products. When we commit to a brand, we buy the stock. We're invested in seeing it sell, and in seeing you love it. That changes how we display it, talk about it and look after it.
Why It Matters on Beaufort Street
Olivia & Grace is family-run and named after our two daughters. We're part of the Mount Lawley community, and every customer who walks through our door gets the same care we'd want for ourselves.
That's the indie difference. Real knowledge. Real belief. Real investment.
Come and see Blunt umbrellas displayed properly at 672 Beaufort Street, Mount Lawley, or shop online at oliviaandgrace.com.au. Ask us anything. We'd love to tell you about them.
